Darlene Lucille Meyer

Darlene Lucille Meyer, age 89, of Manson, IA, passed away at the home of her daughter in Glidden, IA, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 surrounded by her family.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 6, 2020 the Varina Cemetery near Varina, IA.

Directions to the Varina Cemetery:  Take Highway C49 West from the town of Varina two miles to the west.  Turn left on 240 th Ave.  The cemetery is near this intersection.

Darlene was born on May 23, 1931 in Port Byron, IL, and was the daughter of Louis C and Pearl Nancy Ann (Donahey) Schafer.  She grew up on a farm near Port Byron, IL, where she graduated from high school.  She was married to Henry Emil Meyer following her schooling and the couple had five children.  They raised their family in Lake View, IA, where she worked as a telephone operator and owned A&W restaurant for many years.  She also owned Meyer Lawn Ornament business in Lake View.  She later moved to the Fonda – Newel area and most recently she resided in Manson.  Darlene loved to go to the casino and play scratch tickets.  She also enjoyed playing Skipbo, her dogs, and spending time with her family.

Darlene is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other extended family members.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry Meyer, and her son Larry Meyer.
