Darlene George, age 90, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Music for the service will be by Lula Garnes and Cindy Seastrom. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday evening. The casket will be moved to the United Methodist Church at 12:30 P.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service.
Those in attendance at Darlene’s visitation and funeral service are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the funeral home and at the church.

Born on June 9, 1930 south of Coon Rapids, she was the daughter of Elmer and Ellen Betts. Darlene was raised on her family’s farm. She attended Guthrie Center Schools and later graduated from Coon Rapids High School. She married Dale William George on November 11, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. Dale and Darlene farmed in the Coon Rapids area for many years. Darlene also worked for the Coon Rapids Enterprise and the Davis and Clayburg Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids where she served on several boards. Darlene sang in the church choir since high school. She thoroughly enjoyed music, antiques, and flowers. She was active with charitable groups, community service groups, and she loved time spent with family and her many good friends.
Darlene is survived by her daughter Patricia Slaybaugh (Tom) of Council Bluffs; son Joe George (Jolene) of Coon Rapids; three grandchildren: Emily Hughes (Kirk), William George (Cassie), and Katie King (Tucker); five great grandchildren: Jackson and Riley Hughes, Blazi and Hoyt George, and Kaisley King; her brother Cleo Betts (Kae) of Elkhart, IN, and sisters-in-law: Grace Betts of Omaha and Marcella George of Nevada, IA.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 2014; her parents Elmer and Ellen Betts; her father and mother-in-law Fred and Lorena George; two sisters: Mildred Herron (Duane) and Opal Shoaf (Frederick); two brothers: Melvin Betts and Bryan Betts (Dorothy); a sister-in-law Lorene Schumacher; and two brothers-in-law: John George and Wade George (Arlene).
