Darlene E. Dickinson, age 94, of Carroll and formerly of Ralston passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Regency Park in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Glidden United Methodist Church with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross. Soloist will be Chad Stevens. Casket bearers will be Jeff Dickinson, C.J. Dickinson, Trey Dickinson, Brian Makar, and Steve Quigley. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Honorary casket bearers will be Wayne Seaman, Bob Seaman, Jack Neubauer, Duane Broich, Wade Wilkie, Tom Langel, and John Petersen. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the Glidden United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 3, 1922 near Stanhope, Iowa. Darlene was the daughter of Nels and Myrtle (Johnson) Johnson. She graduated from Story City High School in 1939. Darlene was united in marriage to Clifton Dickinson on November 26, 1941. While Clifton served 4 years in the US Navy, Darlene taught in the rural schools of Carroll and Greene Counties. In October of 1945, the Dickinson’s purchased the Ralston Café and in 1958 they bought the Ralston Grocery Store, which they operated until 1972. Darlene later worked at J.C. Penny, Singer Sewing Center, Pamida, Nockels Clothiers, Wilkie Clothiers and Schwesers. Darlene enjoyed sewing, baking pies and coffeeing with friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Glidden, U.M.W., the Ralston Women’s Club, Foxy Ladies Red Hat Club, and the Retired Teachers. Darlene is survived by 2 sons: Steve (Jane) Dickinson of Federal Way, WA and Terry (Joyce) Dickinson of Carroll; a daughter-in-law Billie Dickinson of Parker, CO.; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Ann Gregory; and several nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Myrtle Johnson; her husband, Clifton in 1977; a son, Ronald in 1997; and a sister Delberta.
