Darle B. Dorpinghaus, age 78, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of Carroll passed away at the North Kansas City Hospital on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Casket bearers will be his grandsons: Alex Highfill, Brett Highfill, Nathan Dorpinghaus, Logan Dorpinghaus, Colton Dorpinghaus, Joshua Dorpinghaus, Jacob Dorpinghaus, Jacob Jordan, and John Crawford. Honorary casket bearers will be grandsons: Matthew and David Crawford. Lector for the Mass will be Carlene Dorpinghaus. Gift bearers will be Derwin, Karen, Emilee, and Allie Dorpinghaus. Eucharistic ministers will be Kay Anthofer and Kevin and Rhonda Reis. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 3:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.. Born on May 6, 1932 at Slayton, Minnesota, he was the son of Dr. Henry and Rachel (Houska) Dorpinghaus. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Fulda High School. After high school his family moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa. He entered the United States Navy in 1952 and served until 1956. He was married to Caroline Helen Trebesch on September 28, 1956 at Annunciation Parish Hall in Coon Rapids. The couple lived and raised their family in Carroll where he worked for Crouse Cartage Company from 1957 until his retirement in 1991. His wife Caroline passed away in 2005. He was married to Louise Crawford on July 14, 2006 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Gladstone, Missouri. Following their marriage the couple lived in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish while living in Carroll and St. Charles Catholic Church while living in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a lifetime member of the Carroll American Legion, the Gladstone V.F.W.. In his spare time he enjoyed wood carving, fishing, playing cards, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are his wife Louise of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter Diane Highfill and her husband Kirk of Blair, Nebraska; three sons: Gregory Dorpinghaus and his wife Jani of Albia, Iowa, Derwin Dorpinghaus and his wife Karen of Ankeny, Iowa, and Lynn Dorpinghuas and his wife Carla of Omaha, Nebraska; a step-son Stephen Crawford and his wife Debbie of Belton, Missouri; a step-daughter Julia Giddens and her husband Scott of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Loie Hilgenberg of Waukee, Iowa; a brother Keith Dorpinghaus and his wife Carlene of Coon Rapids; a sister Kay Anthofer and her husband Mike of Coon Rapids; four brothers-in-law: Darwin Trebesch and his wife Shirley, Gary Trebesch and his wife Donna, and Darrell Trebesch, and Douglas Trebesch and his wife Ramona all of the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area; and two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Trebesch, Lois Ray Trebesch both of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Caroline.
