Daniel “Danny” Fred Rose, age 89, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Westside passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Hill Top Care Center in Spirit Lake. Born on September 14, 1919 at Carroll County, Iowa, he was the son of Fredrick and Caroline (Lehmberg) Rose. He grew up three miles north of Halbur and attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. He was married to Geraldine Jahde on December 27, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. The couple farmed until 1957 when they moved to Westside. He then worked as a livestock buyer and later as a feed dealer. He spent the winters in Arizona for many years. In 2001 he moved to Lake Park, Iowa. Danny was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll and he attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and fishing. Surviving are a daughter Patricia Moore and her husband Gus of Gretna, Nebraska; a son Richard Rose and his wife Janet of Westside; and a daughter Marcia Bretey and her husband John of Denison; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1988, a brother Chris Rose, and sisters: Lillian Obmann, Hilda Doitch, Loretta Bolt, and Dorothy Obmann. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Phil Andreasen of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake and Pastor David Anthony officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mark Thompson, Jared Bretey, Steve Moore, Mark Sedlacek, Rahn Eischeid, and Tyler Quandt.
