Daniel John Longnecker, age 66, of Carroll, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 26 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Timothy Schott as celebrant. Music for the Mass will be by Kate Cuddy, Michelle Phillips as cantor, and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lectors for the Mass will be Scott Cawley and Dave Rupiper. Gift bearers will be Ted Longnecker and Mary Cawley. Casket bearers will be Scott Cawley, Dave Rupiper, Mark Werner, Dennis Lappe, Russ Steinkamp, Ron Venteicher. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call after 5 P.M. on Wednesday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5:30 P.M. and Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, where visitation will resume until the time of the Mass. Born on April 9, 1952 in Carroll, Dan was the son of John “Jack” and Mary Ann (Werner) Longnecker. The family moved to Varina until he was in the fourth grade. Dan graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1970. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa where he played football and graduated with a BA in social work in 1974. Dan managed several group homes across Iowa with his career in social work. He moved back to Carroll in the early 90’s and held various jobs including operating his own painting business. He was united in marriage to Sook-hee Hwaung on December 30, 2005 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll by Fr. McCormick. He was a member of St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll, the Knights of Columbus where he was a third degree knight, and the Carroll JC’s. Dan volunteered at New Hope Village in various capacities for over 20 years, including reading the Bible to residents and transportation of residents to Mass and shopping. Dan was blessed in life with a successful kidney transplant in 2000 and continues to give in death as a tissue donor. Dan is survived by his wife Sook-hee of Carroll; his father John “Jack” Longnecker of Carroll; his sisters: Janine Weeks of Marion, Carol Rupiper (Dave) of Johnston, Mary Cawley (Scott) of Urbandale; a brother Ted Longnecker (Georgette) of Johnston; a sister-in-law Yo Petit (Michael) of Branson, MO; Sook-Hee’s family in Korea; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ann and grandparents.
