Dan A. George, age 50, of Coon Rapids passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at his family’s farm near Coon Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Casket bearers will be Nathan McAlister, Adam Hockett, Nick Warnke, Shawn McCurdy, Steven McCurdy Jr., and Michael Bailey. Honorary casket bearers will be Jennifer Bailey, Alisha McAlister, Bobbi Jo Hockett, Kristopher George, Sammi Warnke, and Jaci McCurdy. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for Dan’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on January 12, 1967 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Wade and Arlene (Johnston) George. Dan was a lifelong resident of Coon Rapids where he graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1986. Following high school, Dan earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management from Des Moines Area Community College. He worked for many years in his family’s restaurant, Arlene’s Café. Dan also worked at the North Side and at the Coon Bowl for 19 years. Dan loved to cook and was known for many of his specialties including meatloaf and chili. Dan was chef at the Coon Bowl in 2012 when they were named “The Best Burger in Iowa” by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. Dan also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, going to the casino, hanging out with his friends, and spending time with family. Dan loved to play Bingo and he called Bingo on Tuesdays at the Community Center. Dan was a member of the Son’s of the American Legion, the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church, and he was an avid Wednesday night bowler. Dan is survived by two sisters: Joyce McCurdy (Steven) of Coon Rapids and Mary Warnke (Robert) of Scranton; two brothers: Fred George (Caroline) of Phoenix, AZ and William George of Coon Rapids; three nieces: Jennifer Bailey (Michael) of Coon Rapids, Alisha McAlister (Nathan) of Bayard, and Bobbi Jo Hockett (Adam) of Carroll; four nephews: Shawn McCurdy of Coon Rapids, Steven McCurdy Jr. (Jaci) of Coon Rapids, Kristopher George of Las Vegas, NV, and Nick Warnke (Sammi) of Coon Rapids; his aunts and uncles: Bethel and Duane Carpenter, Darlene George, Marcella George, and Bryan and Jo Ann Emery; and many great-nieces, great- nephews, and cousins. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Wade and Arlene George.
