Dale Joseph Langenfeld

Dale Joseph Langenfeld, age 64, of Exira and formerly of Vail passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Steve Brodersen officiating.  Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Born on August 12, 1954 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Merle and Rita (Schnuettgen) Langenfeld.  Dale grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School.  He was married to Linda Feldt following high school and to this union were born three sons: Jason, Dale Jr. and Joshua.  The couple made their home in Wailes, IA where he worked construction as a self-employed contractor.  The couple divorced in 1981 and Dale and he was later married to Cindy Meissen.  They lived in various locations before moving to Exira in 2015.  Dale was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2019 and fought a courageous battle.  He enjoyed being outdoors and living on his acreage in the timber where he had many social gatherings, flea markets, and raised various livestock.

Dale is survived by his two sons: Dale Langenfeld Jr. of Bellevue, NE, and Josh Langenfeld (Lisa) of Des Moines; four granddaughters: Taylor, Alexis, Sara, and Hunter; his mother Rita Langenfeld of Carroll; two step-sons: Jeremy Phelps (Cathy) of Winterset and Chris Phelps (Kelly) of VanMeter; four step-grandchildren: Montana, Payton, Kylah, and Calynn; his siblings: Glen Langenfeld (Pat) of Arizona, Mary Vivyan (Jimmy) of Willey, IA, Terry Langenfeld (Jennifer) Melvin, IA, LuAnn Langenfeld of Minnesota, Sharon Smith (Shane) of Crescent, IA, Eileen Langenfeld of Carroll, Teresa Schweers of Glidden, Peggy Klocke (Jeff) of Willey, and Chris Langenfeld of Glidden; and his nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his father Merle Langenfeld and his son Jason in 1991.
