Dale Deeth, age 83, of Bayard, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation is Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after 5 PM at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, where a Prayer Service will be held at 8 PM. Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Coon Rapids, with Reverend Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Township Cemetery north of Bayard with military honors by Bryan-Mercer Post 44 of the American Legion from Bayard. Organists will be Patti Patrick and Joe Davidek. The congregation will sing: “Just As I Am”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock of Ages.” Casket Bearers are Dale’s Grandchildren and Honorary Casket Bearers are Dale’s Great-grandchildren. Dale Robert, son of Emil Carl and Velma Marie (Lucht) Deeth, was born May 11, 1929, at home north of Coon Rapids, Iowa. He attended country school near Coon Rapids and graduated from Scranton High School with the class of 1948. Dale then worked as a mechanic at Finch Chevrolet in Jefferson. On May 10, 1951, Dale was drafted into the U.S. Army and on August 29, 1951, he was united in marriage with Shirley Mae Adrian at Trinity Lutheran Church near Coon Rapids. Dale then served with the Fifth Cavalry Regiment in Korea, receiving the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge, as well as other awards. In April of 1953, he rejoined his family in Iowa and farmed with his dad near Scranton. Dale and Shirley moved to Nevada, Iowa for a short time before settling at Bayard in 1960. Dale farmed and then worked with Bayard Quality Eggs from 1966 until 1975 when he began working for Deal Hog Farms. From 1985 until his retirement in 1992, he worked for Frigidaire in Jefferson. Dale then filled his time in the office of PMA until having heart surgery in 2008. Dale was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized on June 2, 1929, and confirmed on April 18, 1943. He held many offices in the congregation and was active in the Lutheran Laymen’s League. He was also a member of the Bayard American Legion, Scranton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions Club and the Bayard Library Board. Dale enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and tending to his garden and yard while riding his lawn mower. He was a sports fan and a loyal follower of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Dale is survived by: his wife Shirley Deeth of Bayard; five daughters: Patti Patrick and husband Bill of Bayard; Gini Pittsenbarger and significant other J.R. Martinez of Mesa, AZ; Cyndi Powell and significant other Ron Marshall of Mitchellville; Lisa Moore and husband Rick of Pauls Valley, OK; Lora Davidek and husband Joe of Westminster, CO; Ten grandchildren: Brandy Kline and husband Brad; Brenda Patrick and fiancé Curt Scheetz; Tony Pittsenbarger and significant other Jennifer Henderson; Tara Emerson and husband Austin; Trisha Pittsenbarger; Zachary Powell; James Moore; Jonathan Moore; Jordan Davidek and Daniel Davidek; Eight great-grandchildren: Kristopher Kiger, Nicholas Pittsenbarger, Bailey Pittsenbarger, Jaime Orlando, Kendal Orlando, Addy Emerson, Ana Urquijo and Lucas Pittsenbarger; a brother Raymond Deeth of Banks, OR; a nephew Greg Deeth and wife Pat and their son Gregory; a brother-in-law Dan Adrian and wife Betty of Scranton; many cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
