Dale Berns, age 79, of Glidden passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at his home north of Glidden. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross and Carl Wilburn will sing and play guitar. Casket bearers will be Lynn Stork, Randy Christensen, Chad Walker, Rick Pudenz, Kevin Soyer, and Scott Wenck. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Dale’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on June 18, 1938 in Carroll, IA, and was the son of Harold and Lillian (Carstens) Berns. Dale grew up on his family’s farm north of Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1956. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. Dale was married to Bonnie Remsburg on May 5, 1957 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. The couple lived in Lanesboro and Dale worked at West Central Cooperative in Ralston. Dale and Bonnie moved to the Wentzel farm where he began farming with his father in 1958 and they purchased the home farm in 1963. Dale was a founding board member of New Hope Village. He served on many boards at Peace Lutheran Church and was a member of the Carroll County Cattlemen’s Association where he also served as a board member. Farming was Dale’s life and he loved feeding and raising cattle. He was a family man and cherished every moment he spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Dale is survived by his wife Bonnie of rural Glidden of 60 years; son Terry of rural Glidden; daughter Kathy Berns of Mason City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Diekmann (Raymond) of Parker, CO; a brother Marvin Berns (Shirley) of Urbandale; a brother-in-law Ed Remsburg (Marty) of West Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Lillian Berns; his mother and father-in-law Warren and Alice Remsburg; and two sons Tommy and Brian “B.J.” Berns.
