Dale was born on May 8th, 1940 in Audubon, IA. His parents were Samuel and Elvira (Kristensen) Andersen. He grew up on the farm near Audubon, IA. He attended rural school #3 in Audubon County, Iowa and Audubon High School. Following his schooling, he married Carol Garnett in 1957. With this union there were four children born: Barry, Terry, Sherry and Jerri.
Dale was an award-winning truck driver for most of his life on the road. He started driving as a farm hand delivering milk from local farmers to people within Audubon and surrounding counties. He continued his love for trucking with T.R. Trucking and Crouse Cartage Company. He would retire from Crouse. Throughout his years at Crouse, he competed in truck rodeos. He was the first Iowa National Champion in the Straight Truck Class during 1998. He would accumulate many more trophies and awards as a truck driver. His talents were many beyond the road.
In 1980 Dale married Betty Andersen (Boone). Dale loved good cocktails such as scotch and water. With his love of cocktails, Dale and Betty owned the Top Hat Bar in Carroll, IA for many years. This led to many conversations and meeting new people. Dale and Betty enjoyed traveling to Texas to their place as well as going on cruises. They enjoyed the many trips to their kids' and grandkids' homes.
Dale enjoyed cooking at family gatherings such as holidays and reunions. He was known for making more food than was needed so there were always leftovers for friends and family. It didn’t matter what the gathering was, he was most likely going to bring his famous chicken noodle soup. He enjoyed music and dancing, as well as cooking. Dale is now trucking into eternity with his many family members.
Dale is survived by three children: Terry Andersen of Bondurant, Sherry Lockhart of Ankeny, and Jerri Riesberg (Randy) of Lidderdale; 2 stepchildren: Deb Holm (Kevin) of Springfield, MO, and Diann Hovey of Oskaloosa; Siblings: Dorothy Nelson of Avoca and Donald Andersen (Janice) of Audubon; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members.
