Craig Alan Balm, age 80, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Eric Balm, Michael Balm, Jaxson Balm, Ameera White, Tony Wagner, and David Gingery. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Churdan where military honors will be conducted by the Churdan American Legion and the Iowa National Guard.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 1 – 2 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service.

Craig was born on April 14, 1946 in Ft. Dodge, IA. He was the son of Willard Arthur and Mary Jean (Rost) Balm. He grew up in Ft. Dodge and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1964. He attended Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge where he played baseball and then the University of Northern Iowa where he earned a degree in Business. In October of 1968, Craig was drafted into the United States Army and served two years during the Vietnam Conflict. He received the Bronze Star and the Infantry Badge for his service to our country. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended the School of Automation in Des Moines. Craig worked in computer automation for several financial institutions in Des Moines and also served in the Iowa Air National Guard and the Air Force National Guard. He was married to Cindy Flack on December 16, 1972 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. The couple lived in Des Moines until 1984 when they moved to Carroll where Craig worked in computer operations for Crouse Cartage Company until its closing when he went to work for Farner Bocken. He enjoyed reading books, sports, and spending time with family.
Craig is survived by his wife Cindy of Carroll; three children and their families: Eric Balm (Vicki) of Papillion, NE, Michael Balm of Lincoln, NE, and Angela Balm White (Alfonza) of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren: Jimmy (Michelle), Stacy, Jaxson (Macy), Ameera, Benjamin, Ethan, and Charlotte; a brother Jason (Sharon) of West Des Moines; two sisters-in-law: Karen Gingery (Robert) of Carroll and Kathy Matthews of Hamburg, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws Kathryn and F. Herald Flack; a sister-in-law Sharon Wagner and her husband John; and a brother-in-law Raymond Matthews.
