He attended Glidden-Ralston School and graduated with the class of 1992. He furthered his education first at Iowa Western Community College and graduated from Iowa State University in 1996 with a degree in Childhood and Family Services. His desire for helping those in need led him to Adolescent Treatment Center, Mosaic, and until his death, MainStream Living as Program Director.         On June 13, 1998 he married Megan Nicole Hinrichs in Lytton, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Brinn 14, Cael 11 and Cade 7.  The family resided in Grimes.   Cory was truly a family man.  He cherished the time he spent with his wife and kids. Cory was his children's first teacher, best coach and biggest champion. Cory loved family vacations and always ensured his family made memories that would last a lifetime.       Cory treasured the time spent with his family and friends at Prairie Meadows. They enjoyed trying to find the winning horse, best paying machine or hottest table.  He was known as “CJ” to all who knew him in the softball family. Many of his softball accomplishments include: winning the Bud Open and MVP, Sub-State, State Titles, National Championship and a Sunday Qualifier for the No Glove Nationals in Chicago, Illinois. He was inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame as a coach, player and umpire in August 2018.  When Cory, aka "Chief", wasn't with his family, you could find him inside or outside Hilton and Jack Trice Stadium. Cory shared his passion for the Cyclones through donations, tickets and good old banter.  Cory could take it as much as he could give it.  If you were lucky enough to know Cory, you were a beneficiary of his big heart and generosity at least once in your lifetime. Cory was liked by many and loved by all.       Left to cherish his memory are wife, Megan of 20 years of Grimes; his children: daughter Brinn and sons Cael and Cade all at home; his mother Sheila Johnson of Glidden; his brothers; Eric(Kim) Johnson of Clive and Reed Johnson of West Des Moines; his in-laws: Deb and Ted Sandquist of Highlands Ranch, CO; Dennis Hinrichs of Sac City, IA;  brothers-in-law: Matt(Jaime) Hinrichs of Huntington Beach, CA and Mitch(Nicole) Hinrichs of Lytton, IA; his nieces and nephews: Blake, Bryce, Josie, Rex, Addison, Trevor, Ryleigh, Melana, Grant and Amelia; his uncle: Doyle(Colleen) Douglas of Chattanooga, TN; cousins: Sam Erickson and Brad(Amanda) Douglas; and many friends whether by glove or by blood.       He was preceded in death by father: Mike Johnson and grandparents: Helmer and Lou Johnson and Shirl and Malinda Douglas.
