Connie was born on October 22, 1949 in Jefferson, IA, the daughter of Kenneth Neal and Gladys Irene (Betts) Teter. She grew up south of Coon Rapids in Orange Township and attended Coon Rapids Community Schools, graduating in 1968. Connie then worked in Des Moines, IA, in the insurance business as a property and casualty rater. It was at this time that she also attended DMACC in Ankeny.
On February 9, 1973, Connie was united in marriage to Gary McPherson at Grace Wesleyan Church in Des Moines. Two sons were born to this union. Connie followed Gary in his work as a preliminary surveyor with the Iowa DOT. The couple made their home throughout the northeast Iowa communities of Grundy Center, Tama, Sigourney, DeWitt, McGregor, and Dubuque. The couple later divorced, and Connie made her home back in Des Moines and continued her work in the insurance business. In 1985, Connie suffered a debilitating stroke and in 1989 returned to Coon Rapids to be near her family.
Throughout the years, Connie enjoyed her volunteer work at Congregate Meals, as a volunteer reading helper at Deal Elementary and sorting price tags and greeting cards at the New Hope Village Bargain Shop where she also enjoyed shopping for gently used books. During her recovery from the stroke, she attended and supported St. Anthony’s Stroke Support Group. She was a former member of Grace Wesleyan Church, the United Methodist Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. During her younger years, Connie enjoyed collecting coins and was a member of Wesleyan Women’s International.
Connie is survived by her two sons: Sean Patrick McPherson of Lake Mills, WI, and Scott Ian (Petra) McPherson of Surprise, AZ; sisters and brother: Debbie (Greg) Gust of Brayton, IA, Rick Teter of St. Joseph, MO, Susan (Jason) Lord of Carroll, IA, and Pamela Eischeid (Tony Derner) of Dedham, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Gladys Teter.
