Coleen Marie Janssen

Coleen Marie Janssen, age 71, of Johnston, IA, and formerly of Churdan, IA, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, IA surrounded by family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Churdan with Fr. Bill Schreiber as Celebrant.  Lector and Eucharistic Minister for the Mass will be Kathleen Brosnahan. Music will be by the St. Patrick’s choir.  Gift bearers will be Mary Jo Hanigan-Schatz and Mary Houston.  Casket bearers will be John Hanigan Jr., Bill Brosnahan, Dick Hanigan, Joe Klein, Tom Staley, and Jerome Monahan. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Friday from 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. prior to the Mass with a Rosary held at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Patrick’s Cedar Historical Church Foundation.

Coleen was born on October 28, 1952 in Lake City, IA, and she was the daughter of Harold and Kathleen (Hanigan) Janssen.  She grew up on her family’s farm next to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church near Churdan.  She graduated from Paton – Churdan High School in 1971 and then attended the College of St. Mary in Omaha from 1971 – 1975.  She began working with the Veteran’s Administration in Des Moines in Quality Assurance where she worked her entire working career.  Coleen proudly took care of her mother in her home in Johnston for many years.  She loved the farm she grew up on, and she loved cats.  She actively managed the home farm up until her death.

Coleen is survived by her aunt Virginia Klein of Dunlap and many cousins.

Coleen was preceded in death by parents Harold and Kathleen Janssen.
