Funeral service for Clifford "Cliff" Loeschen of Glidden will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Peace Lutheran Church.
Mr. Loeschen 88, died Wednesday, April 15, at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll.
Pastor Alan Miller will officiate the service.
Casket bearers will be Mark Blanchard, Tim Loeschen, Roger Prill, Michael Blanchard, Lornie Topp, Dave Stuhr and the Rev. David Loeschen. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery at Glidden with military honors by the Glidden American Legion.
Visitation starts at 5 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.
A son of John and Jennie (Prill) Loeschen, he was born Sept. 21, 1920, at Glidden, graduated from Glidden High School in 1938 then farmed with his parents.
Mr. Loeschen served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, attaining the rank of corporal. He earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, the American Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
After the war he attended Valparaiso University.
He and Eleanor Hiltpold were married Sept. 1, 1946, at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Jung officiating.
Mr. Loeschen was a billing and line material clerk for Glidden REC for 37 years until retiring in 1982.
He was an organist and lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, 60-year member of Merle Hay American Legion Post of Glidden, participated in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and visited residents of nursing homes, and he enjoyed reading and gardening.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Don Loeschen, and his wife, Arlene, of Katy, Texas; a daughter, Barb Blanchard, and her husband, Les, of Atlantic; grandchildren: Mark and Mindy Blanchard of Altoona, Michael and Dessie Blanchard of Los Angeles, Calif., Becky and Kyle McMorries of Texas and Tim Loeschen of Tyler, Texas; a great-grandson; and two sisters-in-law: Moselle Loeschen of Glidden and Phyllis Hiltpold of South Milwaukee, Wis.
Mr. Loeschen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor, in 2005; and a brother, Paul.
