Cletus “Clete” John Irlmeier, age 84, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on September 1, 2009 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 3:30 P.M. led by the Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Lectors for the Mass will be Alan Loew and Judy Bauer. Gift bearers will be Clete’s grandchildren Michael Sack and Emily Rodino. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Stan Kerkhoff, Dale Kerkhoff, Tom Simons, Gerald Hahn, Monty Irlmeier, Alan Kraus, Steve Irlmeier, and Jerry Loew.
Born on May 9, 1925 at Templeton, Iowa, he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Feilmeier) Irlmeier. Clete grew up in Templeton where he attended school. He was married to Dolores Simons in January of 1949 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple farmed south east of Carroll. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Charles Carroll Council 780 of the Knights of Columbus of which he was a 4th degree Knight. Clete enjoyed playing cards, dancing, polka, bingo, being with friends, and taking trips to California to spend time with his girls and their families.
Surviving are two daughters: Mary Sack and Ann Rodino and her husband Robert all of Bakersfield, California; two grandchildren: Michael Sack and Emily Rodino; a sister Irene Kraus and her husband Al of Maple River; a brother Don Irlmeier and his wife Kathleen of Audubon; a brother Merlin “Mox” Irlmeier and his wife Anna Mae of Templeton; the following sisters-in-law: Evelyn Kerkhoff of Templeton, Catherine Zimmer of Carroll, Rita Simons of Carroll, Toni Irlmeier of Carroll, and Dorothy Irlmeier of Santa Paula, California; and his good friend and caregiver Susan Sack of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dolores in 1972, brothers: Joe “Stoogie”,Alex, Leo, and Leonard, sisters: Ann Irlbeck, Jean Brosnahan, and Dorothy Crowdes, and a son-in-law Roy Sack.
