Clara Lucille (Lowe) Van Valkenburg, 85, of Altoona, formerly of Carroll, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John VanValkenburg, David Fransen, Larry Supernaw, Ronald Loewe, Russell Loewe, and Jerry Moores. The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll is in charge of arrangements. Clara was born November 24, 1925 in Deane, Arkansas to Henry & Lillie (Eddington) Loewe. She married Marlin H (Van/Bud) Van Valkenburg on August 1, 1942. Clara & Marlin (Van/Bud) made their home in Kansas, Missouri, & Iowa. Clara worked at the Garden of Gifts Gift Shop & with Marlin in his insurance business. Clara & Marlin enjoyed spending time with their family & friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.
Those left to cherish the memories of Clara are: daughter, Barbara (Van Valkenburg) Fransen of Altoona and son, Raymond Van Valkenburg and his wife, Terry, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; four grandchildren: Rebecca (Fransen) Drummer and her husband Richard, of Marshalltown, David Fransen, of Arlington, Tennessee, John Douglas Van Valkenburg and his wife, Sandi, of McLean, Virginia, and Dianna (Van Valkenburg) Bo and her husband, Gregor, of Westerly, Rhode Island; and five great grandchildren, Amanda Drummer, Matthew Drummer, Connor Bo, Katherine Bo, and Madeleine Van Valkenburg; sisters-in-law, Geneva Van Valkenburg of Salina, Kansas and Mildred Loewe of Sidney, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Clara was preceded in her death by her husband of 68 years, Marlin (Van/Bud) Van Valkenburg, their infant son, her parents, her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-laws, and sisters-in-laws: Alice & Everett Loewe, Evelyn & Claude Supernaw, Freda & Orville Turner, Florence & Claude Smith, Raymond Loewe, John Van Valkenburg, & Kenneth Van Valkenburg.
