Clara M. Lyons, age 94, of Coon Rapids passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids with Pastor Ben Ramirez officiating. Friends may call at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Arnie Lyons, Paul Lyons, Ron Jacobsen, Rob Lyons, Steve Jacobsen, and Alan McComb. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery south of Coon Rapids. Born on March 2, 1920 in Carroll County near Old Carrollton, she was the daughter of William and Rushie (Visner) Gute. She grew up on her family’s farm and attended school at Old Carrollton through the eighth grade. At age 14 she began working for several local families doing cooking, cleaning, and taking care of their children. She was married to Harry “Bing” Lyons Jr. on March 7, 1940 in Des Moines. The couple made their home south of Coon Rapids where they raised their family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, and canning. Clara was an excellent cook and she was well known for her famous pies. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Clara is survived by a daughter Karen Jacobsen and her husband Ron of Coon Rapids; two sons: Arnie Lyons and his wife Linda of Coon Rapids and Paul Lyons and his wife Donna of Carroll; seven grandchildren: Steve Jacobsen and his wife Tiffany of LaGrange, GA, Jo Lee and her husband Jerry of Mesa, AZ, Jana Derry of Coon Rapids, Jodi Schroeder of Scranton, Kelli Hosenfelt and her husband Matt of Carroll, Rob Lyons of Jackson, MN, and Lyndsey Greiner and her husband Jeremy of Ft. Dodge; thirteen great grandchildren: Jazmine, Kate, Bailey, Garrett, Sam, Maxen, Zack, Quinten, Dylan, Kyra, Kynli, Brayton, and Ava; and one great great granddaughter Sierra; five step grandchildren: Ron Lyons, Terri Lyons, Jerry Lyons, Jacque Lyons, and Jeff Lyons; and two sisters: Ruth Gravitt of Coon Rapids and Wilma McComb and her husband Harold of Ogden. Clara was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, two grandchildren: Brenda Jacobsen and Lucas Lyons, a step son James Lyons, a step grandson James Lyons Jr., two sisters: Edith Kopaska and Isabelle Annear, and two brothers: Frank Gute and Clarence Gute.
