Charles D. Smith

Charles Donald Smith, age 76, of rural Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

A Celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 2 - 6 P.M. at the Coon Rapids American Legion with a meal being served at 4 P.M.

Charles was born on May 12, 1950 in Coon Rapids, IA, and he was the son of Donald and Mable (Compton) Smith. He grew up in Coon Rapids and farmed most of his life along with several other jobs along the way. Charlie was a conservationist at heart and always practiced sustainable farming. He was active with the underwater search and rescue. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.

Charles is survived by his family and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mabel Smith; a brother Walter Smith and two sisters: Connie Kennedy and Karen Schurke.
