Charles Allen Headlee, age 76, of Coon Rapids passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Rich Baker. Casket bearers will be Wayne Tolle, Curt Emery, Brian Headlee, Eric Emery, Michael Emery, and Jeff Emery. Honorary casket bearers will be Doug Pevestorf, Larry Paulson, Dan Ford, Larry Taylor, and Rich Webb. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids with military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. The casket will be moved to the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for Charles’ family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on November 25, 1940 in Guthrie Center, IA, Charles was the son of Allen and Evelyn Lucille (Goochey) Headlee. He grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1959. Following high school he attended Iowa State University and enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. He served two years and was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, Charles moved back to Coon Rapids where he worked in the parts department at Headlee Ford. He was married to Janice Emery on April 6, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids by Rev. Mark Sullivan. Charles and Janice have lived their entire married life in Coon Rapids where they raised their three children: Jason, Jill, and Elaine. Charles also worked at the Garst Company, and Case IH dealerships in Audubon and Carroll retiring in 2005. In retirement Charles worked part-time at Chucks Bargain Barn near Audubon. He was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church, the Coon Rapids American Legion, and he was a past member of the Coon Rapids Masonic Lodge. Charles also volunteered many years for the Coon Rapids First Responders. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, going to coffee with his friends, taking rides around Coon Rapids, but most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Charles is survived by his wife Janice of 49 years of Coon Rapids; son Jason Headlee (Sondra) of Des Moines; two daughters: Jill Albright (Randy) of Coon Rapids and Elaine Sheer (Jason) of Johnston; five grandchildren: Justina Albright (Kenneth Buttler), Dalton Headlee, Reuben Albright, and William and Levi Sheer; sister-in-law Kathleen Headlee (Jim Thuman) of Coon Rapids; two brothers-in-law: Wendell Emery (Linda) of Jefferson and Richard Emery (Janice) of Jefferson; sister-in-law Marilyn Bakenhus of Lincoln, NE; his aunt Mary Andersen of Coon Rapids; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Evelyn Lucille Headlee, his mother and father-in-law Wendell and Lulu Emery; and his brother Gordon Headlee.
