Charles E. “Chuck” Parkis, age 72, of Carroll passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 6, 2017 at his home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson officiating. Music for the Mass will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Crystal Parkis. Mass Servers will be Shea and Riley Parkis. Gift Bearers will be Kirstin Tuel, Chloe Parkis, Kira Parkis, and Haley Dudley. Casket bearers will be Mike Parkis, John Parkis, Brian Parkis, Chris Parkis, Brady Parkis, Cole Parkis, Taylor Tuel, and Tyler Tuel. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Chuck’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on September 6, 1944 in Des Moines, IA, he was the son of Charles and Dorothy (Thompson) Parkis. He grew up in Greenfield and Carroll where he attended school until he enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 1962. Chuck served during the Vietnam War on the USS Mullany, as a fireman. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Carroll and was married to Betty Timmerman on April 9, 1965 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River by Fr. P.M. Mattes. The couple made their home in Carroll where they raised their five children. Chuck was an over the road truck driver for Ocoma Foods and Decker Truck Line before purchasing his own truck and became self-employed. Due to health reasons, he retired in 1983. Chuck was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Carroll American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going for walks, taking care of his cars, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and he loved the Chicago Cubs. Chuck is survived by his wife Betty Parkis of Carroll; a daughter Mary Tuel (Marty) of Carroll; four sons: Mike Parkis of Carroll, John Parkis of Carroll, Brian Parkis (Crystal) of Carroll, and Chris Parkis (Beth) of Coon Rapids; ten grandchildren; Tyler, Taylor, and Kirstin Tuel, Brady, Kira, Shea, and Riley Parkis, Haley Dudley, Cole Parkis, and Chloe Parkis; a sister Patricia Anderson of Phoenix, AZ; a step-sister Janet Huegrich – Von Holt (Jeff) of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his father Charles Parkis, his mother Dorothy Main; his step-father Richard Main; his mother and father-in-law Clara and Edward Timmerman; and a granddaughter Chelsey Tuel.
