Catherine "Cathy" Marie Toms

Catherine “Cathy” Marie Toms, age 60, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 3, 2025 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Rick Hamilton officiating. Casket bearers will be Ryan Mohr, Jordan O’Tool, Andy Toms, Joe Kramer, Tyler Gore, and Nick Kinman. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday, February 2, 2024.  Visitation will resume on Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M., prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for a later designation.

Cathy was born on January 19, 1965 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Robert and Theresa (Grund) Schroer.  She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1983.  Cathy attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.  She was married to John Toms on August 31, 1985 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  The couple lived in Des Moines until 1995 when they moved back to Glidden and Cathy worked at the Carroll Apothecary for 24 years.  Cathy then worked for Carroll County Solid Waste Management as office manager for the past 5 years where she was currently employed.  She enjoyed traveling, hiking, sightseeing, golfing, playing cards, and sitting around the fire pit.  Most of all, Cathy loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Cathy is survived by her husband John Toms of Glidden; her children and their families: Susan Toms (Arthur Mayfield) of Perry, Michelle Rogers (Stephen) of Glidden, and Bobby Toms of Emmetsburg; seven grandchildren: Tristian Toms, Cullen Kelderman, Amara Rogers, Adrian Mayfield, Jeremy Toms, Chase Toms, and Aila Rogers; her parents Robert and Theresa Schroer of Carroll; her mother-in-law Ruby Reinhart of Norwalk; her step mother-in-law Sandra Toms of Glidden; a sister Julie Gore (Dan) of Carroll; a brother Gary Schroer (Cheri`) of Glidden; a brother David Schroer (Karen) of Bondurant; a brother-in-law Rick Toms of Glidden; a sister-in-law Lori Kinman (Shawn) of Norwalk; a sister-in-law Diana Ohnemus (Joe) of Norwalk; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father-in-law John Toms; her step father-in-law Keith Reinhart; and a sister-in-law Mary Jo Toms.
