Carolyn Sue Lloyd

Carolyn Sue Lloyd, age 86, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Jill Ortner, Samantha Lloyd, Clare Steffen, Jonathan Lloyd, Cody Lloyd, Brad Steffen, and Zak Lloyd.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 9:30 A.M.–10:45 A.M. on Friday prior to the service.

Carolyn was born on November 1, 1936 on her family’s farm near Bayard, IA.  She was the daughter of William “Bill” and Audrey (Shaffer) Lee.  She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1954 and she was married to Jim Lloyd on July 2, 1955 in Sequin, TX. Carolyn lived with her parents in Coon Rapids for the first 2 years of their marriage while Jim served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.  Upon his return, the couple made their home in Carroll and Carolyn worked for the egg plant in Glidden.  She also worked at the Carroll Country Club for many years and then Carroll Community Schools.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  Carolyn enjoyed playing Pinochle, Bridge, reading, lounging in the sun, and taking care of her yard.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and she loved big Iowa snow storms.

Carolyn is survived by her children and their families: son Dirk Lloyd (Lori) of Carroll, son Shawn Lloyd (Jackie) of Rawlins, WY, and daughter Nancy Ortner (Tim) of Marysville, WA; seven grandchildren: Jonathan Lloyd (Jamie Jenkins), Cody Lloyd (Katie), Clare Steffen (Brad), Zak Lloyd, Samantha Lloyd, Jill Ortner (Derek Foster), and Nick Ortner;  great-grandchildren: Gianna, Austin, Olivia, Philomena, and Graham; several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 2020; her parents Bill and Audrey Lee; her father and mother-in-law: Ray and Elizabeth Lloyd; two sisters: Sharon Winker (Jerome “Bud) and Linda Bloodsworth (John); a brother Keith Lee (Pat); and a brother-in-law Bob Lloyd (Linda).
