Carole Ellen Lieb, age 69, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by her family following emergency surgery for an aortic aneurysm.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating assisted by Fr. Tim Boeckleman. Organist for the service will be Jan Potthoff. Casket bearers will be Christopher Lieb, Scott Wessling, James Hummel, David Hummel, Cole Wessling, Aidyn Lieb, and Xander Lieb.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. followed by an Order of the Eastern Star service. The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:45 A.M. prior to the service.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Oakland, IA.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Carole’s name for a later designation and may be left with the funeral home or at the church.

Carole was born on March 18, 1952 in Council Bluffs, IA, and she was the daughter of Jack J. and Helen H. (Boege) Hummel. She grew up in Oakland, IA, where she graduated from high school in 1970. She attended the University of Iowa for one year and transferred to Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a registered nurse. This is where she met the love of her life Larry Lieb. They were married on August 19, 1972 at Morning Star Lutheran Church in Omaha. Carole and Larry worked at hospitals in Omaha, Valentine, NE, Scottsbluff, NE, and Sioux City, IA, before moving to Carroll in 1984. After moving to Carroll, she became a Certified Master Gardener and worked at Hy-Vee. She also worked at the Yarn Basket and the Quilt Shed. Carole was a 50-year member of Silver Azure Order of the Eastern Star in Sioux City. She was also an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll where she served on the altar guild. Carole was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and her Yellow Labs. Carole was “Oma” to her three grandchildren whom she truly adored.
Carole is survived by her husband Larry Lieb of Carroll; son Christopher Lieb of Eagle, MI; daughter Heather Wessling (Scott) of Grimes; three grandchildren: Cole Wessling; and twins Aidyn and Xander Lieb; her mother-in-law Norma Jean Lieb of Omaha; two brothers: David Hummel (Ruth) of West Des Moines and James Hummel (Mary Beth) of Council Bluffs; a sister-in-law Kathy Cavanaugh of Omaha; three brothers-in-law: Ken Lieb (Nancy) of Seward, NE, Dick Lieb (Carolyn) of Lincoln, NE, and Lee Alan Lieb (Mari) of Omaha; and several nieces and nephews.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Helen Hummel and her father-in-law Elroy Lieb.
