Carol Jean Davis

Carol Jean Davis, age 92, of Coon Rapids, Iowa passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids officiated by Pastor Ben Kolars and Pastor Bobbie Maltas. Casket bearers will be: Justin Free, Jared Free, Chris Davis and Dylan Oshirak. Honorary Casket bearers Ryan Davis and Parker Davis. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery in Coon Rapids.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5-7 P.M. on Friday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Carol was born on April 19, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Glenn Lyle and Hilda Emma (Baumann) Willits. From 5 years old, Carol was raised by her aunt Mabel Edith (Willits) Campbell Jensen and husband Richard Lincoln Campbell in Massachusetts and New Jersey. After graduating high school, she attended nursing school in Orange, New Jersey. She moved to Iowa and was employed as a Registered Nurse at Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames, Iowa. On October 17, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ronald “Doc” Davis at Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames. They were blessed with five children. When the children were younger, she was a stay-at-home mother raising their children. She later became employed at the Bayard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bayard, Iowa until she retired.

Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids and served with the United Methodist Women for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Coon Rapids and in her younger years was active in leading and helping with the Girl and Boy Scouts and was a 4-H leader. As a young girl, Carol enjoyed going to many Major League Baseball games living on the East coast. She enjoyed watching her children compete in horse shows as they were growing up. She also enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s ball games and school events that she and Ron could make it to. For a period, she was an avid bridge player in the Coon Rapids community. Carol and Ron enjoyed traveling, especially out to Colorado several times. She also volunteered numerous hours at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Davis of The Villages, FL, Julie (Arthur) Free of Glidden, IA; two sons Glenn (Rachel) Davis of Crestview, FL, and John (Lori) Davis of Ankeny, IA; seven grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Christopher Davis, Jennifer Davis, Justin Free, Payton Davis, Parker Davis, and Jared Free; two great-grandchildren: Austin and Zane; one great-great-grandson Dexter; brother Arthur (Pat) Cox of New Jersey; sisters-in-law: Glenda Campbell of Lincoln, NE, Jennie (DuWayne) Davidson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jane Davis of Iowa City and Barbara Mickelson of Solon, IA; brothers-in-law: Edwin Davis of Sunrise Beach, MO, Steve (Carol) Davis of Colorado Springs, CO, and Eugene (Dori) Davis of Versailles, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald “Doc” Davis in 2015; daughter Linda Davis; sister Joan (James) Dean, brother Michael Campbell; sister-in law Linda Davis and brothers-in-law Dale Davis and Bob Mickelson.
