Carl John Peters, 73, of Glidden, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may call at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. There will be a prayer service at 7p.m. Organist for the service will be Mary Ross. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Casket bearers are Jeff Peters, Tom Weber, Brett Irlmeier, Chris Soyer, Jason Olberding, Mike Molle, Chris Wallace, and Jamie Petersen. Honorary casket bearers are Jacob Peters, Jordan Peters, Derick Wilson, and Austin Wilson. Born on July 29, 1938, at Carroll, he was a son of John and Edna (Staples) Peters. He grew up in the Glidden-Lidderdale area and attended school in Glidden. Following high school, he worked on the family farm with his father and later worked at Crouse Cartage Co. in Carroll. Carl worked as a lineman in the electrical field for many years. He was a supervisor for Par Electric and later for Burns Electric until he retired in 2002. After retirement, he worked part-time for Schon Lumber in Glidden. He was married to Darlene Baugh and had two sons. The couple later divorced. Carl was actively involved in IMCA Modified car racing with his son Carlan as C&C Motor Sports. He was a registered member of the International Motor Contest Association for 17 years. Carl was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #55 of Des Moines. In his spare time he enjoyed deer hunting and repairing golf carts and various fabrication projects in his shop. Surviving are his sons Curt Peters and wife Jennifer of Des Moines, Carlan Peters and wife Julie of Glidden, stepchildren Mike Halligan and wife Dawn of Liberty Hill, Texas, Scott Halligan and wife Lori of Jefferson, and Deb Halligan of Glidden; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his brother Ray Peters and wife Lola of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim Peters.
