Bruce Charles Warnke, age 66, of Carroll, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at his home in Carroll following a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 4, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Tammi Biggerstaff and the congregation will sing. Casket bearers will be Marc Flannagan, Jeremy Douglas, Keith Pottebaum, Dean Pottebaum, Joe Eisenbacher, and Paul Anderson. Honorary casket bearers will be Ardell Dessell, Larry Bayless, Al Kokenge, Leon Rotert, Eugene Boell, and Wally Rose. Military Honors will be conducted at the church by the Carroll American Legion.
Born on September 4, 1945 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Vernon and Burnita (Daniel) Warnke. Bruce grew up on a farm near Lanesboro and moved to Carroll at age 12. He attended St. Lawrence School as a boy and Carroll High School. Bruce enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and served three years of active duty and fourteen years with the Army Reserves. He was married to Darlene Ladehoff on April 11, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla by Pastor Natzke. Bruce worked for Rotert Construction, Badding Construction and Warnke Construction. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Bruce enjoyed being with his family and friends, camping, woodworking, remodeling his home, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and growing roses.
Surviving are his wife Darlene of Carroll; two sons Brian Warnke and his wife Jeri of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and James Warnke of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; three daughters: Dawn Greteman and her husband Bernard of Otley, Iowa, Sheri Howard and her husband Timothy of Carroll, and Shannon Collins and her husband Michael of Omaha, Nebraska; fourteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nine brothers: Dennis and his wife Donna of Carroll, Dallas and his wife Brenda of Scranton, Randy and his wife Vicki of Carroll, Victor and his wife Helen of Carroll, Gary and his special friend Bev of Scranton, Kevin of Ames, Michael and his special friend Angie of Carroll, Scott of Scranton, and Kelly and his special friend Sheila of Carroll; five sisters: Pam Schiltz and her husband Ron of Carroll, Cindy Mueggenberg and her husband Ron of Carroll, Melody Heim and her husband Richard of Auburn, Cathy Peterson and her husband John of Carroll and Michelle Stork of Breda; six sisters-in-law: Arlene Wegner and her husband Duane of Manning, Rita Lustig of Huntington Beach, California, Esther Zehrung of North Glenn, Colorado, Betty Scott and her husband Tom of Westminister, Colorado, Jo Ann Rutherford of Lakewood, Colorado, and Lorraine Wolfe of Loomis, California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
