Brock Holmes Neary, age 65, of Jefferson and formerly of Scranton passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Gary Hoyt officiating. Organist for the service will be Cheryl Nailor. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery with military honors by the Iowa National Guard. Casket bearers will be Nick Still, Mick Subbert, Gardner Fey, Randy Fey, Earl Roberts, and Curt Eason. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday and will resume at the First United Methodist Church at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Brock’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Brock was born June 10, 1951, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Stanford & Margaret (Fey) Neary. Brock attended Scranton School and graduated with the Class of 1969. Brock was a Vietnam Era Veteran, serving in Germany for 3 years, with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Scranton. Brock worked for Boise Cascade in Colorado, Central Iowa Monument Co. in Jefferson, IA, and Pella Mfg. in Carroll, IA. Over the years, his interests included horses, mules, photography, motorcycles, with a special passion for hunting, raising Labradors, and archery. Family was very important to Brock and he found great joy in spending time with loved ones. Brock was essential in helping to provide care in the days leading up to his father’s death. He valued longtime friends who continued to connect with him over the years. Brock was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Elizabeth (Fey) Neary, his father, Stanford Edwin Neary, and a nephew, David W. Goughnour. Brock is survived by his brother, David (Sheryl) Neary of Monticello, GA; his sister, Stephanie (Brian) Goughnour of Pine River, MN; his sister, Melanie (Gary) Hoyt of Ogden, IA; his brother, Jeff (Kathy) Neary of Merrill, IA., many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many other family members and friends.
