Brian Jay Dorpinghaus

March 31, 1964 — February 24, 2021

Brian Jay Dorpinghaus, age 56, of Atlantic, IA, and formerly of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha surrounded by his family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with Fr. Patrick Behm as Celebrant.  Lector for the Mass will be Jerry Kult.  Music for the Mass will be by Diane Slater and Doris Bass.  Casket bearers will be Jesse Reis, Gage Reis, Lindsey Izurieta, Logan Young, Haley Ramsey, Kieran Young, and Aidan Young.  Honorary casket bearers will be Brian’s roommates: Charles Wagner, Tim McCoy, and Kevin Clark and Brian’s Crossroads Staff and extended family.  Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday evening.  The casket will be moved to Annunciation Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation, without greeting the family, will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Those in attendance at Brian’s visitation and Mass are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the funeral home and at the church.

Brian was born on March 31, 1964 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Keith and Carlene (Heithoff) Dorpinghaus.  He grew up at the Glenwood State Hospital in Glenwood, IA, and moved to Atlantic, IA, when he was 18 years old.  Brian was always a very kind, helpful, and loving person to everyone he knew.  Brian’s favorite things to do were traveling, playing basketball, looking at family photo albums, bowling with Special Olympics, swimming at the Y, watching parades, and eating.  Christmas was his favorite holiday when he spent time with his family. He loved hearing the Christmas carolers on Christmas Eve, especially singing Silent Night.  He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.  Brian was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic.

Brian is survived by his parents Keith and Carlene Dorpinghaus of Coon Rapids; his siblings: brother Kevin Dorpinghaus (Patty) of Coon Rapids, sister Rhonda Reis (Kevin) of Coon Rapids, sister Lisa Young (John) of Johnston, IA, and brother Jason Dorpinghaus of Alexandria, VA; two nieces: Haley Ramsey (Mike Gardner) and Lindsey Izurieta (Chris); five nephews: Jesse Reis (Becca), Logan Young, Gage Reis, Kieran Young, and Aidan Young; three great-nieces: Jordyn and Adelyn Reis and Rylan Izurieta; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents Leo and Helen Heithoff and Henry and Rachel Dorpinghaus.
