Brandon Dean Johnston, age 16, of Colorado Springs, CO and formerly of Yorba Linda, CA passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Denver Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO.
A Celebration of Brandon’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Yorba Linda Friends Church. Born on June 16, 1998 at Glendale, CA, he was the son of Larry and Danelle (Morgan) Johnston. He grew up in Yorba Linda, CA and his family moved to Colorado Springs in December of 2013. Brandon played as a defensive end for the Yorba Linda High School Mustangs football team while living in California and he played for the Pine Creek Eagles while living in Colorado. Brandon began playing the drums at age seven. He played drums for the Yorba Linda Friends Church Worship Team. He played at the House of Blues at Disneyland and also drummed at many county fairs and other venues. He was a talented sketch artist. Brandon loved the outdoors, and was adventurous and active. He enjoyed camping, dirt bike riding with his Dad, skate boarding and BMX riding. He was a member of the Yorba Linda Friends Church while living in California and the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. Brandon came to know Christ at a very young age. He loved and cherished the purity ring his parents gave him at age 13. His life verse which Brandon selected himself was: Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”. Brandon loved the Lord and sought to follow Him with his whole heart.
Brandon is survived by his Mom and Dad, Larry and Danelle Johnston of Colorado Springs, CO; his sister Lauren Johnston; his maternal grandmother Lauralee Morgan of Ontario, CA; his paternal grandparents Elaine (Hudson) and Kenneth Johnston of Lanesboro, IA; his great grandmother Lavon Hudson who he affectionately called “GG” of Panora, Iowa; several aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Michael and his maternal grandfather Dennis Morgan.
