Bradley Girard, son of Victor and Doris (Miller) Schlepp, was born May 18, 1951, at Hoven, South Dakota. He grew up in Bowdle, South Dakota, and graduated from Bowdle High School. He then attended Black Hills State and returned to Bowdle to teach. On August 28, 1971, Brad was united in marriage with Charleen Houghtaling at Bowdle. Two sons were born to this union. In 1981, the family moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa, where Brad taught Physics and Chemistry at Coon Rapids-Bayard High School. He also served as head basketball coach for twelve years and baseball coach for five years, as well as a couple of stints as assistant football coach. Brad retired in 2010, but continued teaching for the next year. Brad was a member of the Coon Rapids-Bayard Board of Education and the Coon Rapids Golf Board. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and caring for his lawn. His life was very much centered around the school and spending time with his grandchildren at their activities. On Friday, June 29, 2012, Brad died at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, after suffering a stroke on the previous Wednesday. He was sixty-one years of age. Brad is survived by his wife Char Schlepp of Coon Rapids; two sons Brian Schlepp of Coon Rapids and Chad Schlepp and wife Gina of Lake View; five grandchildren: Rylie, Brody, Kade, Merrison and Greeley; his mother Doris Schlepp of Bowdle, SD; a sister Vickie Hansen and husband Jack of Bowdle, SD; two brothers Kevin Schlepp and wife Laurie of Rochester, Minnesota and Neil Schlepp and wife Bernie of Rapid City, SD; his mother-in-law Jan Houghtaling of Watertown, SD; in-laws: Donny Houghtaling of Mobridge, SD; Caroline Busta and husband Dan of Watertown, SD and Curt Houghtaling and wife Heidi of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his father Victor Schlepp and his father-in-law Clyford Houghtaling.
