Billie Marie Reiling, age 85, of Carroll passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson of Holy Spirit Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery near Auburn. Born on January 18, 1926 at Richmond, California, she was the daughter of James and Cleo Hudson. She grew up in California and Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Montana. She was married to Cyril Reiling on January 21, 1945 at Great Falls, Montana. The couple lived in Great Falls and Chandler, Arizona while Cyril served in the military. Upon his retirement they moved to Carroll. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll where she served as president of the Ladies Guild for many years including the period when the St. Lawrence grade school was being constructed. Billie did a great deal of volunteer work over the years in Carroll. She served on the MH/MRDD Mental Heath /Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities Board for several years. In the late 1950’s the Reiling’s and several other Carroll residents converted an old school house into a classroom for handicapped children. This was the first of its type in Carroll. She served as a volunteer for New Hope Village for many years and was instrumental in starting the New Hope Village Store. Billie served on a panel under Governor Bob Ray dealing with handicapped issues. She also worked with Senator Tom Harkin on many issues dealing with the handicapped. In her spare time Billie enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors, music and dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are a son John Reiling of Carroll; a daughter Peggy Ann Reiling who resides at New Hope Village in Carroll; a brother-in-law Edward Reiling and his wife Marge of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers Clyde and Joe Helton.
