Betty Jean Waldo, 89, of Scranton, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on May 30, 1932, in Hastings, IA. She was the daughter of Leo and Fern (Stockstell) Kepple. Her family moved to Scranton when she was two years old. Betty graduated from Scranton High School in 1950 and worked as a secretary for a car dealership in Scranton. She was married to Chester Waldo on January 16, 1952, at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton by Rev. Blackman. The couple lived in Kendrick and Cedar Township where they farmed. Betty was very active in the farming operation and she thoroughly loved driving all the tractors especially her 77 Oliver.
Chet and Betty moved into Scranton in 1973 and she worked for Krieger’s Greenhouse and McLaughlin International. Betty enjoyed reading, doing number puzzles and crocheting.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Chet; son, Jack Ivan Waldo (Luann) of Panora; two daughters: Barbara Waldo of Denison and Sue Conroy of Jamaica; four grandchildren: Mindi (Jason) Palmer, Jenny Conroy, Meri (Jay) Calvert and Rachel Waldo; five great grandchildren: Alison (Mike) Shemwell, Brock (Katelyn) Louk, Cali and Raelyn Knudsen and Everleigh Calvert; two great, great grandchildren, Mackynlee and Decklyn Shemwell; other relatives and friends.
