Betty Jane Gregory, age 72, of Scranton, IA, and formerly of the Glidden – Ralston area passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by her family. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Chad Stevens. Casket bearers will be Butch Gregory, Dennis Gregory, Gary Johnston, Don Graeve, Dick Stark, and Bob Hoyle. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5–7 P.M. on Thursday evening. Visitation will resume at the Scranton United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday until the time of service. Her family lived in Perry until she was nine years old when they moved to the Manilla area where she graduated from Manilla High School in 1963. Following high school, Betty attended beauty school in Des Moines. She worked a short time as a beautician in Carroll and then went to work at St. Anthony Hospital and later New Hope Village and Mallard View. She was married to Raymond Gregory on December 4, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. Raymond and Betty lived in the Glidden – Ralston area where they raised their five children. They retired from farming and moved into Scranton in 2007. Betty was an active member of the Scranton United Methodist Church where she served on the UMW. She was a member of the Scranton Betterment Committee, the Varceis Club, the L & L Club of Glidden, the Ralston Women’s Club, and the Friends of the Scranton Library. Betty enjoyed reading, going on vacations with her grandchildren, riding her golf cart, having coffee with friends and family, and spending time outdoors. Betty is survived by her husband Raymond of 50 years of Scranton; three daughters: Lynette Manusos (Reed Iverson) of West Des Moines, Gwen Sharp (Scott) of Johnston, and Elizabeth Gregory of Ames; two sons Luke Gregory of Scranton and Jeremy Gregory (Beth) of West Des Moines; six grandchildren: Kelsey and Taylor Manusos, Bailey Iverson, Haley and Carter Sharp, and Lane Gregory; a sister Violet Harper of Denison; a brother Bill Harper (Bonnie) of Denison; a sister-in-law Ruth Johnston of Glidden; three brothers-in-law: Robert Gregory (Mary Ann) of Ralston, Bill Gregory (Joy) of Glidden, and George “Bud” Gregory of Medford, OR; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Betty Harper; her mother and father-in-law George and Evelyn Gregory; a sister Linda Banks; and a brother Frank Harper.
