Betty Lou Bauer, age 84, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Westside passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Westside Cemetery near Westside, Iowa, with Dr. Craig Dohse officiating. The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family atwww.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 27, 1927 at the family farm in Carroll County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Louie (Christian Ludwig) and Emma (Lehmberg) Bauer. Betty attended an elementary one room rural school through the 8th grade and then transferred to Manning High School where she graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1944. She went on to enter nurses training at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis graduating from there in 1948. Betty worked as a registered nurse for 52 years. Her initial nursing position was with the Veteran Administration in Jefferson City, Missouri. She went on to various nursing positions in Chicago, Carroll, Bakersfield, CA, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Houston. She particularly enjoyed surgery and pain medicine. She also worked part-time as a nursing home supervisor in Santa Monica, CA. Throughout her life Betty enjoyed traveling (which included a trip to the Soviet Union). Her hobbies included reading, games, and socializing with her friends. For many years she served her church as Treasurer and Financial Secretary. Betty was influential in the lives of her family members and is survived by nephew and family Dr. Craig and Dr. Meredith Dohse, Meagan and Mercedes of Houston, as well as great nephews and their families, namely Shea, Katrina, and Connor Dohse,; Seth, Heather, Elijah, Emma, and Riley Dohse (all of Kingwood, TX); and Christian and Gabriella Dohse of Corpus Christi, TX.
