Bernice Frances Squires, known to most as Bobbie, age 86 of Elkhorn, Nebraska and formerly of Glidden died at the Marquis Place at Elkhorn, Nebraska on April 20, 2010 where she has lived for the past five years.
She was born on March 9, 1924 at Wall Lake, Iowa and was the daughter of Francis and Bernice (Walrod) Beck. Bobbie was married to Max Squires on November 20, 1946 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Rectory in Lake City, Iowa. They celebrated 49 years of marriage. As a young girl she attended Wall Lake schools and graduated from Wall Lake High School in1942. In high school she played basket ball. In 1945 she was crowned Miss Iowa State Fair. Bobbie was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church while living in Elkhorn and was a charter member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilary of Glidden. Bobbie was an avid Iowa Hawk Fan.Her life was devoted to her family, comforting the bereaved and her Catholic Faith.
Surviving are three children: Thomas Squires and his wife Cathy of Omaha, Nebraska; Jeff (Scott) Squires and his wife Michele of Memphis, Tennessee; and Ann Maupin and her husband Bob of Springfield, Nebraska; 10 Grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, a son Phillip, a daughter Sue Pruess, and two sisters: Leone Nessett and Norma Stimson.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday April 24, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Father Anthony Pick and Deacon Louis Meiners officiating. Homily will be given by Father Robert Gralapp.Organist will be Mrs. Marcy Anderson,Cantors will be Shery Loughran and Mike Bolton. Lector will be Grant Stimson and gift Bears will be Bobbie’s children: Ann, Jeff and Tom. Eucharistic Ministers will be Jerry and Rita Mathine. Casket Bearers will be Al Way, Ben Squires, Nick Squires, Paul Pruess, Eric Stimson, and Michael Nessett. Friends may call at the Dahn and Wodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5PM on Friday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7PM by St. Elizabeth Seton Parish. Interment will be in the Lake City Cemetery. The American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the Church.
