Bernice Barten

Bernice Barten, age 65, of Rockwell City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Opportunity Living in Rockwell City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Duane Simonsen officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon on Wednesday until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Jerry Barten, Chris Barten, Josh Barten, Dylan Smith, and Troy Bigelow. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery. Born on Apil 17, 1945 at Westside, Iowa, she was the daughter of Richard August and Ida Bertha (Zaiger) Barten. Bernice was admitted to Glenwood State Hospital School at four years of age and spent most of her life there until moving to Opportunity Living in 1991. She was baptized on May 11, 1947 at the home of her aunt and uncle Herman and Emma Keinast near Manning. She enjoyed rocking in her favorite chair, watching television, playing games, and being in the kitchen while meals were prepared. Surviving are her brother Jerold Barten and his wife Sarah of Ankeny, Iowa; and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, a brother Lloyd Barten, and a sister Leone Jo Ann in infancy.
