Bernie was born on November 24, 1935 on his family’s farm near Templeton, IA.  He was the son of Wendelin and Clara (Willenborg) Feilmeier.  He grew up on the farm and attended Holy Angels Catholic School until the eighth grade.  After his schooling, he worked on the farm until he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Roselle and worked construction.  He was married to Susan Murphy in 1965 and they had three children: Mark, J.D., and Erin.  He worked for H&H Foods and later Farner Bocken for over 50 years.  Bernie was an avid Cardinals, Raiders, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Kuemper Knights fan.  He faithfully attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, and he was their biggest fan.  He loved to socialize, making the rounds every morning, to see his many friends.

Bernie is survived by his three children and their families: Mark Feilmeier (Lee) of Breda, J.D. Feilmeier (Stacie) of Clive, and Erin Feilmeier (Joel Mattox) of Waukee; seven grandchildren: Courtney Lorenzen (Scott), Bailey Feilmeier (Gabe Bennett), Trevor Feilmeier (Maddie), Jonah Feilmeier, Tate Hansman, Cody Feilmeier, and Ofelia DeGlopper; six great-grandchildren: Trey, Avah, Tessa, Tatum, Tamryn, and Briggs; a sister Rita Dentlinger of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Wendelin and Clara Feilmeier; his sisters: Mary in infancy, Laura Muhlbauer (Tony), and Marie Lammers (Ed); his brothers: Edwin in infancy, Rudy, Earl (Jannis), Wendelin Jr. (Marge), Al (Irene), and Leonard (Marcia).
