Barbara Lensch

Barbara Jean Lensch, 94, of Glidden, died peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at First United Methodist Church in Glidden, with the Reverend Lorinda Hoover officiating. Music for the service will be by Mary Ross. Casket bearers are Mrs. Lensch’s sons: Buel Lensch Jr., Blaine Lensch, Hans Lensch, Jeffrey Lensch, Trent Lensch, and Kreg Lensch. Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, where visitation will resume until the time of the funeral service. A daughter of Anders and Thelma (Bartlett) Bjorn, Barbara was born May 14, 1923 in Brayton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Exira High School in 1940. During WWII, Mrs. Lensch was a teletype operator at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio. At wars end, she returned to Brayton to teach in country school. Barbara married Buel W. Lensch Sr. on October 13th, 1946 at Oak Hill Lutheran Church near Brayton with the Rev. Vladimar Jensen officiating. Buel and Barbara moved to Glidden in 1959. Mrs. Lensch was a homemaker for many years before working as a secretary after her sons had all entered school. In her spare time Barbara loved completing crossword puzzles, reading, going to coffee with her friends and spending time with her kids and grandkids and attending their numerous activities. Barbara was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the UMW and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include six sons, Buel Jr. and Vicki of Red Wing, MN., Blaine and Cathi of Manson, Hans and Lori of Bellevue, Jeffrey of Greenwood, SC, Trent and Teresa of McKinney TX, and Kreg and Angela of Glidden, a daughter-in-law Danis Lensch of Newport News, VA, 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a brother Bill Bjorn and his wife Barbara, her sister Betty and her husband Harvey, brother Gary and his wife Sandy, and sisters Jeanette and Karen and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lensch was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buel Sr., her son Mark, a sister Elaine, a brother Paul, a brother Richard, and a grand-daughter Megan.
