She also loved her career in nursing, first in family practice and then in Carroll schools and Carroll hospice. A highlight of her career was a month-long Rotary trip to England in 1985. Barbe enjoyed singing, reading mystery novels, quilting, playing cards, and doting over her grandson, Vaughan. Her strength and resilience, coupled with a perpetually positive outlook on life, served as an example to all who loved her. Surviving are her daughter Andrea and her husband J. Alex Thompson of Grinnell; her grandson Vaughan C. Conner-Thompson; her sister Jane E. Grimm and her husband Roger G. Grimm of St. Paul, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
