Arthur F. Gute, age 78, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 2, 2010. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 6, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 3:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Music for the mass will be by Jane Heithoff and Jacob Gute. Lector for the Mass will be Mike Carew. Eucharistic ministers will be Betty Pollastrini and Barb Toohey. Mass servers will be Megan, Maria, and Nick Greteman. Casket bearers will be John Gute, Stephen Gute, Jacob Gute, Matthew Gute, Leo Gute, and Jonathan Carew. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors by the Carroll American Legion. Born on August 2, 1932 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Leo and Anna (Soyer) Gute. Art is a lifelong resident of Carroll. As a boy he attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Carroll High School in 1950. After high school Art attended Creighton University and enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served two years at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Ft. Hood, Texas. He was married to Mary Beth Leonard on November 24, 1955 at St. Columbkill’s Catholic Church in Churdan. Art was employed by the City of Carroll as City Clerk and City Manager and later for the Federal Government U.S.D.A. . He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he served on the finance board, Knights of the Roundtable, the Carroll Planning and Zoning Commission, the Carroll Ambulance Board, and the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, sports, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife Mickey Gute of Carroll; three sons: Mike Gute of Carroll; Tim Gute and his wife Deb of Carroll; Dave Gute and his wife Tina of El Paso, Texas; and a daughter Patrice Carew and her husband Mike of Clear Lake, Iowa; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; a sister Betty Pollastrini of Carroll; a sister-in-law Betty Gute of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Joe and Dorothy Leonard, a brother Don Gute, and a brother Wally Gute and Fran Gute.
