Arlet Verne Morgan

Arlet Verne Morgan, age 88, of Scranton passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at his home in Scranton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlie Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Matthew Kunce, Mark Kunce, Morgan Kunce, Andrew Hupp, Katie Ausen, Stefanie Ausen, Melissa Metzger, and Jackie Ausen. Honorary casket bearers will be Larry Frazier, Dale Christensen, Kenny Hilts, Gene Subbert, Doyle Roberts, and Harlan Renwanz. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy. Born on May 24, 1923 at Adaza, Iowa, in Greene County, he was the son of N.J. “Tute” and Lana (Walker) Morgan. Arlet attended Highland #3 country school in Adaza and Churdan High School graduating in 1941. He started farming with his brother and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 serving in World War II in the Pacific theater. He served in the Philippines, Japan, and China. He was married to Rowena F. Underwood on June 8, 1945 at the Methodist Church in Churdan. Arlet was engaged in farming and working in grain elevators. Outdoor life with fishing and hunting was his hobby. He also enjoyed woodworking. Arlet was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Surviving are his wife Rowena of Scranton; three daughters: Sylvia A. Kunce and her husband Marvin of Jefferson, Jennifer Hupp of Jefferson, and Becky Ausen and her husband Dave of Alden, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; three great grandsons; his step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Arlet was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Jill Hupp, two brothers: Rex and Verle, and a sister Bernice Beecher Hoyt.
