Anna Marie “Annie” Liechti, age 96, of Carroll passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen officiating. Organist for the service will be Sally Patten and the congregation will sing “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”. Casket bearers will be Ross Liechti, Seth Liechti, Tedd Liechti, Benn Liechti, Jason Liechti, and Aaron Liechti. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday morning where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Annie’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 17, 1920 on the Hoogestraat family farm near Arcadia, she was the daughter of John and Clara (Liechti) Hoogestraat. Her family moved to Blenco, IA, when she was two years old and she graduated from Blencoe High School in 1936. She was secretly married to Walter Otto Liechti on September 12, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple made their home on the Liechti family farm east of Arcadia where they raised their children. After Walter’s passing in 1966, she moved to Carroll where she has lived for 50 years on Olive Street. Annie, as she was known to most, has been very active throughout her life. She belonged to many organizations and has pursued many hobbies. She enjoyed sewing , fishing, painting oil paintings for her family, and she even tired her hand at making wine. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Carroll and the Presbyterian Women. She also belonged to the Ar-We-Va PTA and Band Boosters. She later became a member of the Arcadia Cemetery Auxiliary, the Ace Club, and a Bridge Club. Annie thoroughly enjoyed the volunteer work she did for the New Hope Village Store and she was a lifetime member of the Carroll County Historical Society of which she served as treasurer for many years. When the weather was nice she loved to be outdoors taking care of her garden and flowers. While living on the farm, she was very involved in the operation doing chores and field work. Annie is survived by a daughter Judith Liechti of Carroll; a son James Liechti (Sheryl) of Arcadia; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Iola Hoogestraat and many nieces and nephews. Annie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter in 1966, four sisters: Florence Beisch, Helena Petersen, Evelyn Holck, and Marcella Vetter, three brothers: William, John, and Fred Hoogestraat, two siblings in infancy: Clara Belle and George Calvin, and a grandson Jeff Liechti in 2000.
