Ann K. Green, age 80, of Carroll left this life as she had lived it, with grace and dignity, on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Christian wake service held at 5:00 P.M.. Visitation will resume at the church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir will sing. Gift bearers will be her grandchildren: Andrea Stimson, and Emma and Max Glass. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, or any organization in support of wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Born June 29, 1931 in Worthington, Iowa she was the daughter of Edgar and Grace Engler. Ann was the youngest of five children: Lila, John, David and Mary Jane. She attended Mount Mercy College of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. In 1952, she met the love of her life, David Green, and they were married October 24, 1953 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. The couple moved to Carroll in 1960 where Dave practiced law and Ann taught nursing at St. Anthony School of Nursing. Ann continued in nursing until 1965 when she retired to care for her family. Ann's creative talents in knitting, interior decorating, ceramics and her passion for reading were well known to her many friends. She found much pleasure in taking care of her home at 126 W. 8th Street and adored her grandchildren: Andrea Stimson (Ben) of Des Moines, Emma Glass of Chicago and Maxwell Glass of Carroll. The most recent joy in her life was her great grandson, Oliver, the 1 year old son of Andrea and Ben Stimson. Ann was generous and compassionate and above all, a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her two daughters: Kelly Glass and her husband Louie of Carroll, and Roxanne Green of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren: Andrea Stimson (husband, Ben), Emma and Max Glass; her great grandson, Oliver; her two sisters: Sr. Mary Edgar Engler of Dubuque, Iowa, and M.J. Bietzel also from Dubuque and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: John and David, her husband, Dave, a son, Dan and a daughter, Patricia.
