Amelia Caroline Vetter, age 102, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Sunny Brook Assisted Living in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff and soloist will be Marv Toft. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Paul Reicks, Mark Luft, Dennis Ernsperger, Rex Hanson, Scott Linde, Brian Vetter, Terry Eifler and Jeff Eifler. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery.
Born on June 1, 1909 at Carroll County, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Dora (Rose) Branning. She grew up on her family’s farm near Halbur and attended country school as a girl. After school she worked on the farm with her parents. On May 19, 1931 she was married to Walter Vetter at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by Pastor Theodore Tews. The couple farmed southeast of Westside on the Vetter family farm where they raised their four daughters and one son. Walt retired from farming in 1976 and the couple moved to Carroll. While living on the farm they attended Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia and they belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church after moving to Carroll. Amelia was active in Ladies Aid, Church Circle, and quilting. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her son Duane Vetter of Denison, IA; four daughters: Darleen Linde of Westside, IA, Virgene Behrens of Carroll, Diane Schroeder of Arcadia, and Sandra Snyder of Carroll; 24 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Bernice Branning of Manning, IA, and Hilda Branning of Denison, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter in 2002, three brothers: Walter, Fred, and Arthur Branning, three sisters: Louise Dierenfeld, Caroline and Lorena both in infancy, two grandsons Kevin Linde and Allan Linde in infancy, and a great granddaughter Laura Pickup.
