Honorary Urn Bearers Alvin’s Grandchildren
Interment Manning Cemetery Manning, Iowa Alvin Harold, son of Julius and Emma (Joens) Musfeldt, was born March 19, 1922, at home near Manning, Iowa. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Manning High School in 1939. He worked on the family farm Southeast of Manning and was a hired hand for neighbors and family until he married Clara Edna Wiley on May 24, 1949, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Then they moved to the family farm and joined the Methodist Church in Manning. He continued farming the family farm until he retired in 1985. Four children were born to this union. Clara passed away in 1974 after they had been married for 25 years. After graduation Alvin became the high school basketball score keeper, he pursued this for 30 years. He also enjoyed umpiring softball games and bowling. He was a member of the Gray Hunters and enjoyed CB's when they were popular. He worked many years for the ASCS (conservation service) office in Carroll. After retiring he moved to Irwin, Iowa. Later, he met and married Mary Pries on December 30, 1993. Alvin served as Mayor of Irwin until he was eighty years old. In 1999, Mary passed away and he became interested in Greenridge where he served as President from 2003 to 2007. He continued going to Greenridge until the last couple of years. Alvin enjoyed getting together with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for family get-togethers. His favorite thing besides visiting with them was enjoying homemade ice cream with strawberries. On Sunday, November 27, 2011, Alvin died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, of complications from a fall. He was 89 years, 8 months and 8 days of age. Alvin is survived by his children: Cynda Juhl of Harlan; Vickie Steffes of Attica; Randall Musfeldt of Manning and Rick Musfeldt and special friend Cheryl Clouse of Des Moines; Grandchildren: Edward Steffes and wife Tina of Manning; Sarah Wiese and husband Ron of Des Moines; Jesse Musfeldt of Harlan; Alison Musfeldt and fiancé Chad Marsh of Scranton; Evan, Cora and Brenna Musfeldt of Liberty Center; Great-grandchildren: Olivia and Zoey Wiese of Des Moines. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives Clara Edna and Mary Pries, one infant son and two sons-in-law Merle Juhl and Earl Steffes.
