Alvin Black, age 61, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 2016, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge surrounded by family and close friends. A grave side service is planned at a later date. The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Scranton is assisting the family. Alvin was born on November 20, 1954 to Elmer and Gladsome "Pearl" (Williams) Black in Jefferson, Iowa. Alvin grew up and spent most of his life in the Scranton area. He attended schools in Scranton. Alvin loved working on cars and was an owner with his brother, Fess Black, of "Poor Man’s Body Shop" in Glidden, Iowa. After the business broke up, Alvin moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa. There he was a "jack of all trades." His passion was automobiles and working on vintage cars, spending time with his friends, going to sales, and raising dogs. Alvin is survived by his brother Kevin (Ruth) Dillavou of Carroll and Fess Black of Scranton; sisters-in-law Paula Dillavou of Lakeside, California and Vicki Dillavou of Grand Junction, Iowa; nephews and nieces: Laurie Dillavou and Bill Dillavou of Lakeside, California; Penny (Ed) Kinegak and Tom (Tammy) Dillavou of Grand Junction, Colorado; Keri Moore and Kelly (Ronnie) Madison of Grand Junction, Iowa; Gene (Mallory) Dillavou of Jefferson, Iowa; Troy Dillavou and Amy Dillavou of Carroll, Iowa, Eric Dillavou of York, Nebraska and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Pearl and brothers Gene Dillavou and Lloyd Dillavou.
