Alva Kenneth Bonnette Jr., age 51, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Rev. Robert McKnight officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Laura McKnight. Casket bearers will be Tony Nunez, Brian Burris, Jamie Loeffler, Daniel Winger, Christian Bonnette, and Jim Barber. Interment will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Born on March 6, 1960 at Omaha, Nebraska, he was the son of Alva Kenneth Sr. and Iola Fern (Spaulding) Bonnette. He grew up in Omaha and Arkansas and moved to Scranton in the early 1980’s. Alva was a carpenter by trade and worked for Ultimate Thermal, Alan Thompson, and various other jobs. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, following the Oakland Raiders and watching NFL football, gardening, camping, cooking, canning, and smoking meats. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Sam.
Surviving are his partner and mate of 10 years Avis Velasquez; a son Kenneth Joseph Bonnette and his special friend Ally of Scranton; a daughter Angela Kay Bonnette and her fiancé Joshua Baker of Adel; a step-son Lucas James Bradwell of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren: Kadence, Jordan, and Jonathan; four sisters: Sandra Burris of Scranton; Connie Loeffler and her husband Ron of Scranton; Annette Winger and her husband Mike of Scranton; and Vera Kroner and her husband Jeff of Scranton; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and three sisters Vicki Nunez, and the following infant siblings: Kimberly Kay, Judy Kay and James Andrew.
