Alice Mae O’Brien, age 94, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab of Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Patrick Behm as Celebrant. Music will be Kathy Halbur and Sherry Loughran. Eucharistic minister will be Jane Boes. Gift bearers will be Karen Hook, Judi Daniel, Peg Weitl, and Linda Frank. Casket bearers will be Mike Thielen, Mike O’Brien, Pat O’Brien, Jon O’Brien, Mark O’Brien, and Mike O’Brien. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Anthony Cancer Center in Carroll.

Alice was born on February 9, 1931 in Carroll, IA. She was the daughter of Anthony and Evelyn (Goecke) Wilberding. She grew up in Breda, IA, and attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School graduating as the Valedictorian with the Class of 1948. She then attended Commercial Extension School in Omaha, NE. In 1950, she moved back to Carroll and was employed at Security Title and Investment Company until she retired in 1993. On October 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Richard “Bing” O’Brien at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Alice was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Alice and Bing enjoyed fishing, gardening, and their many extensive winter trips. Bing passed away on July 4, 2008. Alice continued to enjoy her home until moving to Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center in October of 2023.
Alice is survived by three brothers: Ed Wilberding of Lincoln, NE, Larry Wilberding (Diane) of Wesley Chapel, FL, Merle Wilberding of Dayton, OH; one sister Shirley Jennewein of Yankton, SD; brother-in-law Art Reiff of Carroll, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Bing” O’Brien; her parents Anthony and Evelyn Wilberding; sister Lois Wilberding in infancy; brother Don Wilberding (Peggy); sister Evelyn Kropf (Lonnie); sister Myrna Niewohner (Joe); sister Marilyn "Sal" Reiff; sister-in-law Maureen Wilberding; brother-in-law Bill Jennewein; and Bing’s brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
